I have seen a few that would not turn over with the alternator LOCKED up, your cable idea should work.

I have done it a bunch of times. Of course, I usually check a even a new starter before installing it.

Parts are crap any more.

I wish Obamacare never came about. Before that I had insurance for 85 a month including dental with no deductible. Now it's a house payment and doesn't cover anything. Guess I should have never screwed up my back.
