Tom, here is my crappy roof. I want to skim coat the one side that has the bricks deteriorating and get the roof to where I can forget about it for a few years or replace it. What's your opinion?

@Chris

My opinion is that should be 'flashed' (sheet metal, and caulked) above along the brick and dropped over the tarred roofing material !!!

Also, that unit should be up on a curb, papered, mopped in also with a flashing.
Snow is going to be a real problem up there especially along the wall with the windows.

It's only been like this since 1910. I bet they have encountered some snow in those offices

No doubt about it, I wouldn't touch trying a repair, tear it off and do it correctly. Still like to see a detailed scope of work. Is he adding ISO board, taper system, how's the peripet wall handled with capping?

It was verbal. That's how he rolls. He was just going to tear off and redo the membrane.

Gonna probably need your help all the way through if I dont want it to be just like it is now. I know what I want to do to the brick for repair but that's where my knowledge stops.

Flashing, walls, penetrations are going to be the most likely source of problems if not handled correctly. It's all in the detail work.

What do you think materials would roughly cost? I want to do it in the spring.

The issues are going to be flashing the windows sils, the unit has to come up, the membrane needs to go up and over the peripet wall and New capping installed. Did he do a core test to see how thick the existing roof is?

What do you mean by the unit has to come up? He did nothing but walk around and take pictures.

I dont think any of the other building have it run up and over the parapet wall. The short one next to me goes over to another roof own by the governor and he just did the skim coat mortar on his side and the top.looks good til you hit mine.

Barrie,young kids. Old Ford (80s) truck won't turn over. New battery, new starter. First he tries to tell me it won't turn over with a bad alternator. When I finally convince him that it will. I tell him to o short across the solenoid, nothing happens. Then I tell him to take the cables off the battery, put jumper cables on the starter. touch the other ends to the battery to see if there is a bad connection between. I tell him it will turn over if battery and starter are good. He insists it won't work if there is a short between the battery and starter. I gave up.

I have seen a few that would not turn over with the alternator LOCKED up, your cable idea should work.
