Veggie stir fry and brown rice.
I broke down and bought a decent rice cooker and tried it out for the first time tonight. I like it!
It cooks oatmeal too so I'll try that tomorrow morning.

I made egg drop soup last night.

I make all our rice in a pan, it tastes better. Not everyone knows but you should always fry your rice in butter or oil(i use Tallow) before you add water, it opens them up for flavor but also keeps them from getting sticky or mushy.

I wish I knew how to make rice better. Yeah, I can steam it, but beyond that, I can't do it. I've tried making Spanish rice, but it sucks. I even had an old Mexican lady come over to walk me thru the process, but she didn't use precise measurements, so I couldn't follow. I do know she said it was all in the 1/2 of onion in the middle of the pan, that is the secret to great Spanish rice.

I have never liked Spanish rice for some reason?
I used to make rice in a pan and it usually turned out well, but the rice cooker is nice because I can set it and forget it while I walk the dogs or whatever else I need to do. The secret with cooking most whole grain rice is washing it correctly first. I didn't know that before getting the rice cooker. I'll have to try toasting it first sometime like you do Chris.

We started rinsing our rice before throwing it into the rice cooker, and it tastes really good, and makes it less sticky. I also use chicken broth instead of water, and add some garlic powder, so the rice is flavored. Yum. Guess what is on the menu tonight?

Yup, Chicken and Rice.

It's simple, one cup rice, fry it in a tablespoons of oil until it has changed color a bit. I use a higher heat. Add two cups water and one teaspoon tomato bullion per cup of water. Cover and cook 20 minutes. If you don't have tomato bullion use chicken bullion and replace a cup of water with tomato sauce.

For rice a roni same thing but break up some sphagetti noodles and just use chicken bullion. Turns out perfect. For every cup of rice just double the recipe.

Another thing is buy a quality rice. We use jasmine mostly. Good rice you can see open like a flower when fried. Cheap rice is probably plastic anyway

I order several different varieties of USA grown organic rice from Lundberg Rice. It seems to be high quality. I can't find short grain brown rice anywhere here but they always have it.
