Morning all. Tom, our bill was $400 a month when we moved here. After the new a/c was put in, the bills went to $150. Now, they raised our electric rates and now paying $300 a month.

Just got my electric bill. $309 with a new, high efficiency A/C system.

$21 and change... We have solar. What a blessing. Installed by previous owner, it covers over 100% of usage, the $21 is taxes only.
We have had SEVERAL days in excess of 100* the past month here in AZ.

With old solar, you got the tax credits. They have now dried up. Now, electric companies (at least for sure in California) are charging between ~ $100 - $150 a month for solar users to compensate the electric company for not being able to charge you. Then you add the ~$30k for the installation of solar, and around here, people are paying $400 - $500 a month just for the privilege of having solar. It is the talk of the town now.

Solar is on my list. At least I live in a place where power is more affordable. I have three meters on my property and everything is electric, no gas at all. With a well, a.c., electric kitchen and shop my bill was 215 for all three meters. Worst part is I pay almost 20 bucks a month in taxes and fees for each meter.

I heard how they were working on that a couple years ago. At the time they were targeting people tgat lived by the beach because they we rent paying their fair share because they didn't use ac.

The only way I would consider it was if I completely disconnected from Edison (our electric supplier) had a bank of batteries with step up inverters, and installed a natural gas generator for those not so sunny days. If you disconnect all the way from the electric companies, you cannot be charged that $150 a month.

Just not feasable where you live. They will find some way to charge. I also heard it was against the law to not have the services. I remember I didn't want trash service years ago and the city forced me to get it. I had a dumpster at work so why do I have to pay the 78 bucks every couple months? Here I have the option of trash for 40 a month or drive a mile to the public transfer station that is only open Saturdays for free. I drive on Saturdays. If I got off electric I would be off the grid other than internet.
