I was one of 7 police motorcycle units from 3 different cities, who all gathered in my city to conduct traffic enforcement around our schools. When the planes crashed down into the World Trade Center, we were having our meeting and the boss said "Don't worry what you are seeing on TV, we have a job to do, and that is to issue citations to everyone committing a violation!" I told him I refuse to issue any citations because the memory of this day will outlast us, and one thing people don't need is to be issued a ticket for such a stupid violation such as parking more than 18" from the curb, or speeding 5 MPH past the limit. My boss wanted to terminate me for my failure to follow a direct order but pushed it, and asked him to fire me (I had more seniority than him), at which time he backed down. Yeah, I stopped a lot of vehicles, but I talked with them and nobody got a ticket. I'm glad I made this decision.
