I was at work already on the base, we went to 'lock down', spent three days there in the same clothes. There was a lot of activity while there and the time mostly went by quickly, but at others it just dragged on.... when we got released a group of us all went to breakfast at a diner off post. this would have been the fourth day, the 14th, we must have looked pretty haggard, ...they compent our meals... After going home, showering and changing clothes most everyone went back.
It was shocking, horrible, maddening and frustrating all at the same time.
A few days later I was at the site at the Pentagon to help assess the damage and structure of the building. It just didn't seem real. What I remember the most was the smell.
