Unfortunately, we have (60) 45' trailers of water just standing around. We cannot accept food products from outsiders because if we take it, we own it, and if someone gets sick, it will fall onto the Red Cross. As far as clothing, diapers and baby formula, we provide them to partnership organizations. I worked security for the front of the Red Cross chapter and got lots of folks pissed at us because we cannot accept used clothes from citizens. There is just no room to sort and deal with it, but our partners at the Salvation Army would gladly accept these items. Jerzee dropped (10) 45' trucks loaded with bras, socks, underwear, tee shirts and panties. They were offloaded into one of our 5 warehouses near the Houston airport, and are being distributed as we speak.
Speaking of water, Anheuser Busch sent us 10 truckloads of water. They are filled in Budweiser cans and it says "water" on it. Problem is that Budweiser wanted free publicity so they stamped the cans with the "A" logo on the side of it. Every church we sent this out to refused it because they don't promote alcohol, so we had to load it back up and it is just sitting there.
Many don't understand that Red Cross is only first responders, to fill the gap until FEMA gets in and makes the money distribution available. We provide $400, shelter, food and water, but just until FEMA comes out of their suites and provides federal funds.
