Drove to Franklin to look at fabricating a chimney cap, homeowner was intent on putting a cap on it and not doing any of the necessary masonary restoration. Top course of brick I could lift off by hand, I just don't understand the mind set of folks sometimes. Why am I the bad guy cause I wouldn't do what he wanted... I just don't get it.

Explain that you can not in all reasonableness install it on loose brickwork.

Its an older house in a historic area, the chimney vents a gas water heater and furnace. There's no liners in it. The inside of the chimney is dripping moisture and there's some sort of organic garden growing on the inside of the brick. He's been informed that he needs separate flue pipes for the furnace and water heater, the chimney tuck pointed and then I'll make a cap...not til then. Guess I've reached a point in life where I don't care about jumping through impossible to reach hoops.
