I forgot. My van is over 25 years old. I bought lifetime tags for it for $35 and no more inspections.

All my vehicles combined are cheaper than my pickup was in California. You couldn't pay me enough to move back to that state. Yes it has all those great things but try actually doing any of them. It's a nightmare. Far to many people to enjoy anything their.

My boss, his wife, and the in-laws all followed their kids up into northern Utah, to be close to their grandkids. The kids just moved to Michigan for work, so now the parents are forced to sell their homes and are trying to move back to California, but can no longer afford to do so. They say to never follow your kids. I now know why.

I agree with the not following your kids in most cases.

I told everyone that followed us not to. I have no idea if this is my forever place. I'd like to live on the water somewhere. Luckily my property here is worth double what my California property is worth so I could move back if I ever fell on my head hard enough to want to.

There are pros and cons wherever you decide to live. Ya need to consider good school systems if you have kids, and good hospitals as you get older. I too would love to live at the beach, but it would take $2-3M for a starter home.

As you get older you also have to think about the climate, being in close proximity of things you like to do, being in an area that has enough residents that are around your age so you feel a sense of community and mutual support, and the political leanings of the area. The only thing about where I'm at is it's difficult to attract and retain people in the medical field. There's at least a decent hospital 2 miles from my house and excellent medical helicopter transport to Phoenix. I figure if I ever need to I can move back to Cincinnati area.
